Risky Business and a New Water Source
This is a very early time to plant tomatoes and peppers outside in the Chicago area, but that is exactly what I did today. My plants have gotten large and spindly and the roots had begun to get crowded in their containers. I figure they have a fighting chance outside compared to their “peat pot prisons” in my studio.
I planted half of these outside and have kept half inside as “backups” in case the inevitable late frost comes. With this kind of gambling I’d be a really lousy farmer.
I have been given a rain barrel for my birthday. We’ll see another day – a day when I have the time to get it, assemble it and install gutters & downspouts – to see how that works.
